The Indian police has a made sixth arrest over mob attacks on Nigerian students in northern India, an officer has said.
A video of Nigerian students being hit with sticks and metal chairs in Greater Noida had gone viral on the internet.
“He (the sixth suspect) was under tremendous pressure, so he came to the police station and surrendered himself,” Superintendent Sujata Singh said.
Sujata said that the police hoped to make four more arrests.
She said police have identified roughly 60 people from footage of the attack who they plan to charge
with rioting and unlawful assembly.
The attacks started after the death of an Indian teenager from a suspected drug overdose, which locals blamed on the Nigerians.
Recall that the Federal Government had summoned the Indian High Commissioner to Nigeria over the attacks.
