Malia Obama makes first 'political statement' post-White House SOLOMON 28:01:2017

Malia Obama just recently made a stand with Standing Rock in protesting the Dakota Access Pipeline at an event at the Sundance Film Festival.

Actress Shailene Woodley saw the former first daughter at the event, and she spoke out about how amazing it was not only to see Malia at the event but to see that she was starting to form her own political beliefs and take her own political stands.

"It was amazing to see Malia. I saw her last night when we did the event with Chairman Dave Archambault. And it was incredible to see her there," Woodley, an outspoken activist, said.

"Also, to witness a human being and a woman coming into her own outside of her family and outside of the attachments that this country has on her, but someone who's willing to participate in democracy because she chooses to, because she recognizes, regardless of her last name, that if she doesn't participate in democracy, there will be no world for her future children," she continued.

While the government halted the pipeline in December after massive protests against the project swept across the nation, it has been revived by the Trump administration as of Tuesday.
